After a month of struggling to find the perfect carrier for me and my (now) 6 week old daughter, this one is the one! We also have a Moby Wrap, which I adore, and I don't think there's a better carrier for newborns. But, it got tedious taking it on and off, especially for nursing or pumping. I also found it to get hot when we'd go out for a walk with it. I wanted something I could throw on easily to tend to chores, walk to the mailbox, etc.
First, I tried a locally made ring sling from a local store that carries breastfeeding and babywearing supplies and I found the rings to be too small and the fabric too stiff. It would constantly bunch up in the rings, making it difficult to adjust. I would have to re-thread the rings every time I wanted to use it. FAIL.
Second, I got a Beco Butterfly II carrier on eBay. It is for a front and back carry with two straps, like a backpack. Being a woman with an ample chest, this did not fit well for the front carry, but is a good one for my husband.
I felt like I was bleeding money trying to find the perfect carrier. They are expensive! So, I ordered a few different ones from Amazon, to try them out and be able to return them. I tried the ZoloWear Ring Sing, the ZoloWear Pouch and then this, the Maya Wrap. The ZoloWear ring sling was made from a beautiful fabric; so smooth and soft to the touch. It had larger rings than the first one I tried. I thought it would be the one. However, I found it had the same problem (for me) with being able to glide the fabric through the rings. So, the fabric makes a difference (and here I thought it was just the rings). I tried the pouch and it seems like it'd be better for a baby with better head control. I might try it again when my daughter is bigger.
So, the Maya? LOVE IT. First off, I LOVE the Bright Stripe fabric. Second, it just glides through the rings, like butter. Having this sling work for me was a small victory. I started thinking of everything I needed to do, just so I could carry the baby around in it. She loves to be swaddled and held, so she likes the closeness of the sling. I like the padded shoulder, which I think will make it more comfortable for longer outings. I also like having the pouch for keys/wallet/diaper, etc. I love the thought of being able to go out without lugging the diaper bag.
I know carriers have a learning curve and that everyone has a preference. What works for one person may not work for another. For me, this is the one, and I am so happy!

I bought this to use for carting around my 6 month old since she is getting bigger. I found it to be a little frustrating to adjust the material. When my daughter was sitting in the carrier I think her legs were cramped because she would not tolerate it for to long. The hip position is nice, but really is not all that different than just carting her around on my hip. You have only a little more freedom of your hands.
The padded portion is nice and fairly comfortable. I just felt like I needed to keep readjusting the sling.
This may be a great product for smaller babies. I just found the price for what I was using it for did not seem justified. I actually returned the product.

I thought this would be a great alternative to the Baby Bjorn I used for my first daughter, but I didn't really like it. Maybe it takes some getting used to, but I just couldn't get comfortable in it and didn't really feel like my baby was as secure in it as she was in the Bjorn. I may give it another try as my daughter gets older and can hold herself up better, but it didn't work out for me in the early months.
